Celebrate the joy of roller skating and the opening of the new "Chicago Rink Rats" exhibit! Be among the first to see the exhibit, and enjoy live musical entertainment by School of Rock and a book signing by author and exhibit writer, Tom Russo. Guests can lace up skates in our recreation of The Elm Skating Rink outdoors on the Museum grounds. BYO skates OR a limited skates/sizes available for use (socks required). Skate at your own risk, signed waivers required. Meet members of area Roller Derby Teams and get your own derby name. Hot dogs and ice cream available for purchase.

Watch and learn from the pros at this amazing demonstration of roller skating skills from the Golden Age through today on the YMCA’s outdoor rink. DJ Oliver spins tunes and emcees this fun evening for all ages. See professional competitive freestyle skater Carrie Svihlik, and members of Chicago Roller Talent, Chicago Outfit Roller Derby Team, and The Osiris Initiative will demonstrate various skating styles from the 1940s-‘70s and beyond—including shuffles, spins, jumps, and Chicago’s own JB (James Brown) style skating. Concession sales available to support the YMCA scholarship fund. Outdoor event, rain date July 26. Limited seating available.
