Churchville Schoolhouse

About the Churchville Schoolhouse

Step back in time with the schoolmarm or master for an authentic living history experience at the Churchville One-Room Schoolhouse! This historic structure (built circa 1850) is one of the few remaining one-room schoolhouses in Illinois on its original site and has undergone extensive restoration to make it ready for school groups and community programs. Owned by the City of Elmhurst and managed by the Elmhurst History Museum, this National Register of Historic Places property is an authentic setting for field trips for school, scout, and adult groups. Immersive history experiences featuring a 1910 teacher give visitors the opportunity to experience how farm children from the early days of DuPage County learned their daily lessons. What Educators are saying about us:

"Please pass along our most sincere gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful presentation we received today at the Churchville Schoolhouse. Once we got back to our classroom my students were raving about the presentation and said they learned so much today! It was such a great experience and I will be passing along the recommendation to the other teachers to come to your facility." -- Kristen N., Teacher, West Leyden High School
